Children’s Home in Colombia

Colombian-German Foundation Aktion Barmherzigkeit

…giving them a new home

In the heart of Bogotá, the capital of Colombia, there is a children’s home where around 25 children aged 7 to 18 live. Children who have experienced violence, neglect, and abuse find a new, family-like home here. They receive holistic care, are supported in their healing process, and are individually encouraged in their development, including access to a good education. The contribution for a sponsorship amounts to… 60 Euro/Month, but can also be chosen freely.

The non-profit Christian organization “Acción Misericordia” (Spanish for “Action Mercy”) is located in the heart of Bogotá, the capital of Colombia.

Angelika Walker In 1995, she welcomed the first children into her home. With official government recognition, she soon established the children’s home, where to this day children aged 7 to 18 are fully cared for and supported. Children who have experienced violence, rejection, neglect, hunger, parents struggling with drug or alcohol abuse, the loss of parents, persecution by rebel groups in the country, or abuse are given a new home here. Angelika Walker is supported by a dedicated German-Colombian team.

Our staff member Angelika Walker:

“It all began in 1988 when I attended a school for Christian child ministry at ‘JmeM.’ During a time of prayer, God spoke to me about Colombia, a country I didn’t know at the time. Later, I saw a child in a vision who said to me: ‘Don’t just pray for us, come and help us!’ After 24 years of work in Bogotá, I can say: it hasn’t always been easy, but it has been worth it. I would do it again. God is incredibly faithful!”

What children say about this project

Bronco*:

I really like it here because they treat me well, love me, and I get to know God. I enjoy dancing, and I can walk on my hands.

Jobo*:

My great passion is sports. I am sponsored by the sports league because I am very talented. My main sport is trampoline. I have already won several gold medals in national competitions.

Aarón*:

At the children’s home, we get enough to eat, and the staff help us with our homework. I now go to the football club and a home group. Our ‘Mama’ visits us regularly, and we are allowed to go to the park with her.

Yana*:

For this sponsorship project, we offer two ways to provide support.

1. Child Sponsorship

This means providing regular financial support to a child in the chosen project, ensuring that they are adequately cared for and supported according to their developmental needs. Sponsors receive informational letters from the project annually.

2. Project Sponsorship

This means committing to the chosen sponsorship project as a whole through regular financial contributions of any amount. This helps cover general project costs, such as staff and operational expenses, as well as additional expenses like special activities, major purchases, or social assistance in emergency situations. Sponsors receive annual informational letters from the selected project.
