Preschool to 7th grade
Nestled among bushes and trees on the outskirts of Chimoio in central Mozambique, the children’s center “Moyo Mucuru” was founded in 1998 to provide local children with a good education—a privilege that is far from guaranteed, as Mozambique remains one of the ten poorest countries in the world. From the beginning, intercultural staff (IKM) from VM-International have managed the project on-site. Since the end of 2016, the couple… Markus and Andrea Burkhardt They have been leading the center since then. More than 30 local staff members are employed in teaching, administration, housekeeping, grounds maintenance, and security, helping to ensure that the Christian school enjoys an excellent reputation well beyond the provincial borders.
The children are taught from preschool through 7th grade, the end of primary school, according to the Mozambican education system. Since 2018, parallel classes have been introduced, allowing more students to be enrolled.
Even in preschool, the students learn to read and write the alphabet. They learn to recognize numbers, colors, and shapes, as well as the basic principles of health and hygiene.
In grades 1–7, an average of 33 children are taught per class level.
The national average is more than twice as high.
By the end of the school year, almost all students typically achieve the class objectives.
On the school grounds, there is a basketball court and a football field available for physical education classes and competitions with neighboring schools.
The teaching of Christian values and biblical content is part of the school’s concept and is incorporated into daily school life in an age-appropriate manner.

Giving children in Mozambique a future
For this sponsorship project, we offer two ways to provide support.
1. Child Sponsorship
This means providing regular financial support to a child in the chosen project, ensuring that they are well cared for and supported according to their developmental needs. Sponsors receive informational letters from the project twice a year.
2. Project Sponsorship
This means contributing regularly, at any amount you choose, to support the chosen sponsorship project as a whole. This helps cover general project costs, such as staff and household expenses, as well as additional costs like special activities, major purchases, or social assistance in emergency situations. Sponsors receive informational letters from the project twice a year.
