VM FOKUS 1/2026
Future for Children
We dedicate this new issue of VM Fokus to the future of children. Jesus makes it unmistakably clear how much children are valued in God’s eyes., by choosing Himself, as God’s Son, the path of humble beginnings and coming into the world as a baby.
The stories of Samaroo and Santosh From India, they show us what a great gift a sponsorship is and how it can sustainably change the lives of individual children and their families.
Beyond the sponsorship projects, many of our intercultural staff (IKM) around the world are involved in children’s lives in various ways. From “Growing with a Friend” in Portugal to hunger relief in the Philippines, tent evangelism in South Africa, children’s homes in North and South America, and educational and development projects in Uganda and elsewhere, it’s all included.
We also report on the leadership change at the “Colombian-German Foundation Aktion Barmherzigkeit” in Colombia.
A look back at our VM Retreat 2025, along with some brief news from around the world, is also included.
But take a look at this new issue yourselves and let it take you on a journey of giving children a future…

Sent for Today – Between Mission and Adaptation
This new issue of VM Fokus also focuses on the winds of change. In its lead article… Björn Lütke raises the question in his article of whether the wind of change leads us to build walls or windmills.
In his foreword, Mission Director Reinhard Leistner describes how both the BFP and VM-International have changed. He gives a glimpse of how VMI builds windmills.
Our intercultural staff (IKM) report on how they experience the winds of change in their ministries and how they respond to them. One thing is clear: the mission is still as relevant as ever!
We also bid farewell to Marie Berger, who has returned to Germany after 18 years in her field of service. At the same time, we are pleased to…* two new staff members welcome to the global VM family.
Two other highlights of this issue are the Interview with Magnus Hönke from the mission team of Credo Church and the Report on VMF and VMI on the back page.
But take a look for yourself at the amazing new issue with truly great articles…

Mission – Same Calling, New Perspectives
In this new issue, we explore how mission work has changed. Mission in times of globalization and digitalization brings new challenges and opportunities.
Our Deputy Mission Director, Fred Lenhart, raises some intriguing questions in his foreword: “How can we convey the greatest message of all time in a way that is still contemporary and relevant to life in a rapidly changing world? And what role do fake news, AI, social media, and much more play in today’s world?”
In the feature article, … shares Reinhard Leistner …his thoughts and observations on the topic “Mission in the New Era.” It becomes clear that God’s commission to make disciples of all nations remains unchanged, no matter how the world evolves.
Our intercultural staff (IKM) worldwide report, how their ministries have changed and how they perceive and carry out the role of a missionary in the digital age.
As special highlights, you will find the warm invitation to our first free VM webinar. On 10.04.2025 will Martin Körber on the topic “Introduction to Artificial Intelligence” and will give a presentation.
The next „Meet and Greet a Missionary“ featuring input from Gernot Elsner and small group sessions with our IKM, is just around the corner. 01.07.2025 treffen wir uns online auf Zoom.

#darumMission
In der letzten Ausgaben vom VM-Fokus haben verschiedene Pastoren berichtet, why mission is still highly relevant and so important today, and how they practice, support, and promote mission in their congregations.
In this issue, we also focus on the exciting question, whether Jesus’ words, “As the Father has sent me, so I send you…” (John 20:21), still apply to us today in the 21st century.
The feature article focuses on Siegfried Bongartz taking us on a quest to uncover the biblical evidence.
Following this, our intercultural staff (IKM) worldwide answer the question of the meaningfulness of mission. We read about how we can support persecuted Christians, how the lives of individuals can bring change across international borders, and how many seemingly small gestures can provide significant help.
Also, a look back at our annual, highly valuable VM Retreat with VM Inspiration Sunday can be read. In June 2025, we will be in Baden-Württemberg—perhaps even in your church!
But see for yourself
